 Carrol Cox 

Carrol Cox graduated from Jackson High School in Louisiana and received his degree from Samford University in Birmingham. After graduating college, he served as an assistant coach for six seasons at Jess Lanier.

Cox accepted his first head coaching job at Jess Lanier in 1979 and led the Purple Tigers for a total of 21 seasons. He also served as the athletic director at the school.

His 1986 team finished 12-2 before losing to Robert E. Lee of Montgomery 13-7 in the State Championship game at Legion Field in Birmingham.

The 1990 team defeated Murphy 22-0 in the State Championship game for Coach Coxs first title. That team ended the season with a 12-3 record.


Coach Coxs overall football record is 162-77-2 in twenty-one seasons as a head coach. His teams won 22 playoff games and lost 13. The Purple Tigers won eight area and region titles during his tenure.

Cox retired following the 1999 season as the winningest coach in school history. After retiring, he moved to Georgia for an assistant coaching position. He took a job at Campbell High School in Smyrna, Ga., where he coached the defensive ends.
